Tubman Plumbing delivers professional backflow testing services throughout the Capital Regional District, helping homeowners, businesses, and strata properties maintain compliance and protect their potable water supply.
Backflow is the unintended reversal of water flow within a plumbing system, caused by backsiphonage from a pressure drop in the water main or back-pressure from downstream systems. When this occurs, contaminants can be pulled into the drinking water supply. To protect public health, the Capital Regional District operates a Cross-Connection Control program requiring certain properties to install, register, and maintain backflow prevention devices.
Any property owner within the CRD water service area with at risk of a cross connection is required to have a backflow prevention assembly installed, registered, and tested. This includes residential, strata, commercial, and institutional properties with systems such as irrigation, fire sprinklers, boilers, or chemical injection equipment.
Testing frequency depends on the type of property and system. Residential irrigation systems without chemical injection are tested every three years, while all other residential backflow assemblies require annual testing. Commercial, industrial, and institutional systems, including fire protection and mechanical equipment, must be tested annually to remain compliant.
Backflow devices must be installed by certified plumbers under permit and tested by certified backflow assembly testers using calibrated equipment that meets CRD requirements. Once installed, devices must be registered through the CRD’s Cross-Connection Control portal. After testing, results are submitted directly by the certified tester, allowing property owners to track compliance, test status, and upcoming due dates online.
With certified experience in the testing, repair, and installation of backflow prevention devices, Tubman Plumbing LTD helps residential and commercial clients maintain safe, compliant water systems throughout the Capital Regional District. Under CRD requirements, residential irrigation backflow devices must be tested every three years, while all other residential, commercial, and institutional backflow assemblies require annual testing, giving you confidence that your water supply is protected and your property remains in good standing.
